New Topic of Discussion: Worst Bands EVER!!!

What popular song or band drives you nuts by how bad they are and you can't believe that one person much less millions helped them become even a one hit wonder?

I'll start. For me, it was the Spin Doctors "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong".

IMO horrible song, horrible music, horrid singing and the most dreadful lyrics ever contained in a hit song.

IMO rock music isn't meant to be spiteful and to use the media to wish illwill towards another person as this song suggests. Rock stars DO NOT address anyone's faults to millions of people just out of spite and expect to sell millions of records or sellout concert halls. How did this band pass through? What were people thinking?

Yeah, Randy Newman had a huge hit with the equally mean "Short People" yet IT WAS A NOVELTY SONG PEOPLE! He didn't write it because of spite, it was funny and it also had a pretty great hook and melody.

What's yours? Why?

Great Louisville Hardcore bands 3.0: Crain

The first time I saw Crain was as inspiring to me as the 1st time I saw the Clash on the Tom Snyder television show as a 9 year old back in the late 70s. Their intensity and their power was/is awe inspiring. Things got incredibly intense during their gigs and the crowd helped to intensify things exponentially. This is what made this band so fun to This kind of intensity STILL thrives within me though its been tempered over the years. Hears why:

Great Louisville Hardcore bands 2.0: Kinghorse

Actually, I don't really give a rat's a$$ if there's any interest here, this band was Louisville's punk "Bon Scott led AC/DC" to Squirrel Bait's "pre-Nirvana Nirvana". I listened to their record incessantly while I was sculpting. I believe their music heavily influenced the pieces I created.

Here's one of them:

Their lead singer, a great artist himself has an incredible piece which is actuallu going to be up for sale soon.

I love how his has TOTAL command of his colors. If you are interested in purchasing it, I guess you can contact me.

Anyway...
Sean was the bouncer/doorman at the long ago defunct Tewligans*. His nickname was "Rat". He wasn't that tall or menacing -BUT- nobody ever messed with him.

Hears why:

*To me, music hasn't been the same since that place closed its doors. RIP.

Dave Grohl compliments Louisville Punk Rock band, Squirrel Bait!!!

Dave Grohl in a recent Rolling Stone, slightly paraphrased:

"I played "Sun God" by Squirrel Bait recently for [Foo Fighters drummer] Taylor Hawkins. He said, “Wow, was Kurt really into this band? Goddamn if this doesn’t sound like Nirvana.” - Actually Taylor, it was the other way around."

For any Louisvillian into punk/hardcore, this is a huge testament on how incredible the scene was back in the 80s/90s. I had just moved there in 1987 and everyone I jammed with constantly talked about Squirrel Bait, they were huge in the town's eyes.

Too bad its taken 20+ years for them to get any national exposure like this. I'll post a bunch of the bands that have come out of the scene if anyone is interested.

LENNONYC: 11/22/10 9 PM - Don't Miss IT! (PBS)

Can't wait to see this. Comes on after Kentucky's first games in the Maui Invitation this Monday. What an action packed evening huh?

Watch a clip from the AMERICAN MASTERS: LENNONYC, a new film that takes an intimate look at the time Lennon, Yoko Ono and their son, Sean, spent living in New York City during the 1970s. The film premieres nationally Monday, November 22 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings).

Glad to see you go go go...goodbye!

1975. Queen, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Elton John topped the charts. Then, this incredible blaring dirty music blasted out of my brothers room and Punk Rock music was born. My life was forever changed and the Ramones were to blame. Combining 3 chords (OK, sometimes 4), incredible pop sensibilities of a great 1950's tune, mixed with the harshest shreds and loudest distortion that I'd ever heard.

God Bless The Ramones...Gabba Gabba Hey!!!

My favorite "Driving" song

My all time favorite driving song is by a NC band from the late 80s called the Connells.

I couldn't find it on youtube but Rhapsody has is streamed off their site at the link below. 12th song from the top.

While not that heavy, the music just goes great with driving extremely fast, it just continues to build and build, and is perfect especially while driving in a Porsche 928 which I recommend highly.

I had the pleasure of picking one up back in 1997 for my girl's uncle in Dayton Ohio. The ride back to Louisville and the music I had planned/brought with me was just perfect. I ended the trip with Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways" as I pulled into his driveway and the sun was setting. I stuck my head out of the sunroof and yelled "She's home boss" to him.

I will never forget that day for as long as I live.
